Philip A. Garbutt

Phil has been a partner of Giffen Lawyers LLP since 1992. He has enjoyed a lengthy career as a trial lawyer but also acts as a mediator and arbitrator.
Phil attended the University of Toronto, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours) in 1982 and the University of Windsor receiving his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1985. He completed formal training as a mediator at the Centre for Dispute Resolution in Boulder, Colorado. He is an accredited arbitrator with the ADR Institute of Ontario.
He obtained his CRM (Risk Management) designation from the Global Risk Management Institute after completion of studies at the University of Toronto.
He is a member of the Advocates Society, the Canadian Bar Association, the Waterloo Law Association, the ADR Institute of Ontario, the Global Risk Management Institute, and the American Association for Justice.
The focus of Phil's practice involves plaintiff and defence personal injury, professional, municipal and EPL liability and insurance coverage matters. He is a member of our ADR Group with extensive training and experience in mediation, arbitration, neutral evaluations, and dispute resolution systems design.
Phil lives in Waterloo with his wife Pamela and two children. He has received numerous volunteer service awards for his many years of community service with various organizations. He enjoys skiing, coaching basketball, golfing and sailing when not chained to the office.
